Issue Brief Idea

Drinking ages Should be reduced to 18 Explain origins of law Explain flawed logic behind up keeping of law Compare to other societies with higher and lower ages Establish societal effect Look at statistics dealing with alcohol related crimes Conclusion United States (Federal) - 21 Rationale DUI’s are said to have significantly gone down from a higher drinking age Belief that the problems surrounding underage and binge drinking will only get worse if lowered to 18 Drinking at lower ages causes worse academic performance More early teens susceptible to alcoholism If states were to lower their drinking age from 21, they would lose up to ten percent of their federal highway funding The concept that a person becomes a full adult at age 21 dates back centuries in English common law; 21 was the age at which a person could, among other things, vote and become a knight (Based on old laws) rises in alcohol-related traffic fatalities among 18-2...

This I believe Draft

Belief in failure               It was the day after the end of my first semester in college. This was a time for relaxation and celebration at all attained over the previous time span. However for me, it was no such a time for either. I came into my first semester of college with my goals set very high. However, these goals proved to be out of reach at the end of the semester. I was in a remorseful state because I felt that I had failed myself. The happiness and joy of the holiday season were not at all upon me. I felt like there was short of nothing anything could do to uplift my spirits. To my surprise, I found my inspiration in the most unlikely of places: at the State College-College 9 theatre. Yes. It wasn’t until the middle of a very anticipated movie that I and so many others had been much looking forward to that I found my inspiration. As I watched on, one very well known green character came on screen and ...

Pick a Side any Side

I felt that my two ideas for both the passion blog and civic issues blog were solid ideas that could have had tons of development off of, and that could have easily entertained a viewing audience. However, when it comes to the topic of choice for each of these, I felt the answer was clear as to which I felt would be more entertaining, and which would be more fun to write. Passion Blog For my passion blog, though i initially thought I'd want to move completely away from original topic, I ended up finding a specific within it that I though would be very cool and very fun to write about. This topic dives into the depths of the world of exotic car companies instead of just exotic cars as I had initially planned. Though most people I'd say aren't interested in cars at all, I feel that to the slightest auto enthusiast, this blog will resonate well with them. The possibilities are endless when it comes to topics like this. The history of some companies is just astounding ...

The Choices

This I Believe For my this I believe blog, my two topics followed two themes I personally very much support. The first of these is that I believe anyone who wants to can succeed with anything they set their mind to. I believe that humans have the capability to work hard enough to ensure success in anything. It doesn't matter what barriers or other disadvantages are encountered. We always hear stories about the least likely people succeeding in things that they do and I believe that anyone who wants it bad enough can do the same. The second is I believe in market competition and no monopolies. I believe in businesses constantly striving to best each other. I believe in businesses giving fair prices for their products and constantly improving their products to ensure that their product is bought over another one. I believe this process is what drives societal progress. Passion Blog For my passion blog, I have two choices of blogs that I can surely get passionate about. To ...

A Shift In The Wrong Direction

Image
A Shift In The Wrong Direction Due to issues regarding both of my initial topics, I have decided to go for another completely different topic; the topic of the shift in youths perception on respect. Now this topic to me seems like a topic with a lot of possibility for tons to be added upon it as it tackles a particular point many may think to overlook. Humans, especially children, have become so much less respectful of each other within a two generation shift. We went from a time where society was practically built on respect but now have shifted into a time where people are so individualistic and confident in their abilities that they are willing to disrespect the opinions and advice of people with tons more credibility than themselves. What causes this to occur and what brought about such an occurrence? These are the main points I seek to cover within my paper. Many times throughout our lives, we have been told to respect those older than us and those and those wiser than us....

It's a new dawn, It's a new age

Introduction Paradigm shifts are very common in society. Whether long, drawn out periods or short, pithy periods it is a historical fact that paradigm shifts have occurred and occurred very frequently in history. So, when we are asked to choose a particular period of time exemplifying a paradigm shift and discuss it in depth, there are seemingly endless opportunities for choices. However, when I look at history in terms of what I've been taught about or observed, no paradigm shift catches my eyes quite like the following two: Industrialization and Automation: In the late 1700's, one of the biggest and most defining changes of the modern world occurred and it is commonly known as The Industrial Revolution. Prior to the time of this massive change, items that were bought and sold were created through long arduous labor. Artisanship ruled the production industry thereby causing items to take long amounts of time to make and to also be very expensive, due to supply and demand...

Maximizing your Verbal Potential

The art of speech giving is a very difficult art to master for most people to master, but when done correctly is arguably the most effective form of communications of ideas and ideals. Through everyone's lifetime, we have all experienced good speeches and great speeches. However, what sets these apart? Deliverance of effective speeches is a very meticulous process that doesn't require much skill to accomplish, but  requires hard work and good time management. Now you may ask why I choose to particularly pinpoint those two procedural steps. This is because of how big the role that each of them play in the speech deliverance process is. In relation to hard work, a good speech requires hours of continuous drafting of the speech to make sure every key point is hit and that the rhetorical techniques are being used to their greatest potential. Sometimes it takes looking at a finished speech and tearing it all down to rewrite a new one that more accurately encompasses the true vie...
